There are so many things that I would like to say about this but I’ll try to make it as brief as possible. You know, I could careless about Miss World 2013, in fact I never watched it except when I was in my elementary school year when I was in midst of switching the channels. So, why discussing Miss World 2013? Well, I’m attracted to hypocrites I guess. Not in a loving way but in the kind of I-so-want-to-bash-your-head-with-a-mallet sort of way. If you haven’t been updated to the news, Miss World 2013 is currently being held in Bali, Indonesia. And because I’m an Indonesian and there has been controversies surrounding the contest, I think I have to share my opinion with you guys.
People have been protesting this contest and the loudest protest came from an Islamic organisation entitled Front Pembela Islam (FPI). There are also other Islamic groups who protested this contest but the point is most of the protests came from Moslems. And with that being said, I would like to address this rant to you, moslem people who are very determined that this show is an abomination and should not have been held in Indonesia. Let me enlighten you that if you protest this show, you are being hypocritical to your own country and your own religion.
First of all, Indonesia is not an Islamic country. The constitution is clear about that and in fact we have various religions: Islam, Christian, Catholic, Hindu, Buddha, and others. What might be “haram” for you does not necessary apply to others. For example, alcohol is “haram” for Moslems but it is certainly not “haram” for other religions such as Christian. If you guys cried out we have to respect other religions, then you guys have to be tolerant to other people’s opinion. Forcing your way to boycott the contest single handedly is the act of intolerance to others because clearly you are not open to discussion with other people. I mean, just the other day there were protestors who threated that they will send in an army of cockroaches during the event (which in my opinion, it’s a very stupid move. I mean, how do you have the time to collect so many cockroaches; put them in containers; and ship them to Bali?). Is that how a religion claimed to be peaceful and tolerant should behave? Please, you are nothing but being a hypocrite.
Second, if you claim that this contest is an attempt to exploit female’s body then you are dead wrong. Look at the winner of this contest. She will be the representative of UNICEF to help poor and diseased children in the globe. Name one child that you ever saved then you can get back to me if this show’s goal is really about the body. Oh and by the way, what about Miss Arab World? Why aren’t you protesting that?
Take a good look on the video. That is the copy paste of Miss World but probably without the bikini. But I’m very sure what they are wearing is not “Islamic” don’t you think? Or maybe there are still dumbs who will say “Yes, we protest Miss World 2013 because of the bikinis”. Then, what about fashion shows? What about people who come to the beach? What about the Olympics who have swimming as one of the sport being competed? Are you gonna protest all of that? You are now just being a hypocritical douchebag if that is your logical explanation.
And lastly, what are you doing protesting Miss World 2013? In Jakarta, there have been random killings on the Police force and you are protesting Miss World 2013? For fuck sake, your country is being terorized by an unknown organization trying to dismantle the national defense and this is your first priority? How stupid can you be?
And what is the business with Moslems trying to tell the woman what to wear? I mean, if your religion teach you not to rape, isn’t that enough? I mean, can’t you control your own genitalia and let the woman choose what’s best for her. And I know, you will probably say that this is for protecting the woman but it also sounded that you are an overprotective parent. You sounded that you have little faith on woman and honestly, it sounded like the woman is the source of why raping is happening.
Look, it’s not that I’m being hateful to Moslems because I’m not. It’s just the fact that the biggest and loudest protests have been from the moslem faction that I need to speak out. Stop trying to put your dogma to the country because Indonesia is not nor will ever be an Islamic country.
